Dealers - some dealers (but, unfortunately, not all) know a lot about the embroidery aspects of their machines and software that is available. If yours falls into this category then treasure her/him and take full advantage of any courses that are offered. If there is a club for customers then try to attend, as you can learn a lot by exchanging ideas.
